Capdell, back to shool with the new Col chair
Presented for the first time at the latest Salone del Mobile, this chair designed by Franescriféstudio is a reminiscence of a typical school chair of the 80's and 90's.
"Capdell wanted me to design a versatile, neutral and timeless chair", says designer Francesc Rifé. "That’s difficult, I thought! Then my mind wandered to an image that was part of my subconscious: packed classrooms at school and those classic chairs with a tubular structure and a plywood seat and chair back. And that was the starting point for a reworking".
The designer’s work focussed on reworking its lines in a contemporary style: the remodernised result is an urban-style chair with a silhouette that has brand new technical details, like the double tubular steel structure that links the seat and the chair back behind.
These are large and comfortable but, thanks to the effect of thicknesses and convexity, also aesthetically light.
Col has a curved, varnished steel structure, a seat and chair back in beech plywood, with the possibility of adding padding in various fabrics to make it even more comfortable. The combination of steel and beech, perhaps with padding in various colours and fabrics, creates an extremely interesting dichotomy. Col is suitable for both home and contract use.
