Reviving history: New Life’s design, the beating heart of the Le Fucine and Spazio Villalta projects

How do you design memories and the future? New Life responds to this challenge by contributing to the interior design of two symbolic locations in the Friuli region, in Italy: Le Fucine complex in Buttrio (Udine) and the new Spazio Villalta (Ex Dormisch) in Udine. The company, in collaboration with architect Marco Zito, contributed to furnishing the two ambitious projects developed by Gruppo Danieli, creating a common thread of advanced craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

LE FUCINE COMPLEX, BUTTRIO

The Le Fucine complex in Buttrio, consisting of a hotel, two restaurants, a café-bistro and a sporting club, was the result of a large-scale project that began with the restoration of the service station designed by Marcello D’Olivo in the 1960s. For the restaurant, New Life has created custom-designed sideboards, benches and dividers alongside the Èlia chairs. The stylistic consistency of the project also extends to the hotel rooms, for which New Life supplied Èlia armchairs, and continues in the outdoor area of the Sporting Club, where the L’Ala Outdoor collection furnishes the dining and lounge areas.

Spazio Villalta, Udine

Moving into the heart of Udine, the atmosphere changes: the industrial archaeology of the former Dormisch Brewery gives way to the urban and innovative vocation of the new multifunctional Spazio Villalta complex, which also includes the Villalta Bistrot, a revival of the former brewery’s historic role as a meeting place. A particular emphasis was placed on the enhancement of historical architectural elements, making the former Dormisch site a new landmark for the city, a symbol of rebirth, inclusion and innovation. For this dynamic environment, characterised by reinforced concrete and steel structures, New Life contributed to the furnishings with Èlia lounge chairs, paired with L’Ala Outdoor coffee tables in the colour Creta. The setting is scenic: the furnishings welcome visitors at the foot of the monumental elliptical staircase, the true “beating heart” of the building, which visually connects all the floors.

With these two projects, New Life confirms its position as a leading exponent of “Made in Italy” design, demonstrating its ability to work alongside major clients and architects on complex redevelopment projects. Whether it’s a bistro surrounded by greenery or a city technology hub, the Friuli-based company shows how furniture can become an integral part of a place’s narrative, bringing new life to the spaces of the future.
