Lithos Design: The Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay Case Study

The Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay case study demonstrates how the dialogue between an architectural practice and a company evolves into a genuine research process, leading to solutions that extend well beyond the scope of a single project.

 

London-based studio Muza Lab selected Lithos Design as its partner for the design of the marble surfaces, recognising the company’s expertise and its ability to interpret this material. For this project, Lithos Design created wall coverings reinterpreted through the use of specific marble varieties selected by the design studio.

 

Along Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, just a few kilometres from Tétouan, between the Alboran Sea and the Rif Mountains, Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay redefines luxury hospitality through a contemporary design language deeply rooted in local culture and tradition.

 

 

The objective was to bring the surrounding landscape indoors, beginning with its distinctive colour palette. While the selection of materials followed the palette defined by Muza Lab, it also involved an extensive research process by Lithos Design. The company explored a wide range of marbles and natural stones, carefully assessing each material to determine its suitability for three-dimensional carving and its performance in the specific environments throughout the resort.

 

The final selection fell on wall coverings from the Pietre Incise collection: Tratto in Calacatta Vagli Oro marble, together with Polis and Barcode Zero in Calcite Blu marble.

 

 

Tratto interprets stone through a sequence of rough-textured horizontal incisions that flow across the surface, creating a contemporary visual language. This three-dimensional wall covering combines strong material and decorative qualities, bringing depth and character to the spaces it defines.

 

Polis captivates with its ever-evolving material expressiveness, appearing to assemble and dissolve across the surface to create a dynamic wall pattern that is constantly renewed.

 

Barcode Zero is defined by a sequence of lines deeply engraved into the natural stone, creating a wall covering with a harmonious, balanced and refined design, where the graphic pattern engages in a dialogue with the material’s natural character.
