Lithos Design as the technical partner in the creation of Raffaello Galiotto’s artwork, bringing cutting-edge stone technology into contemporary art

 

An ancient marble from the Verona area, Bronzetto di Verona, meets the most advanced stone-processing technologies. From this synergy comes Genesi, an artwork by Raffaello Galiotto created with the technical collaboration of Lithos Design. Lithos Design thus plays a central role in a project where material, art and innovation come together and complement one another.

 

The work is part of Pieghe di Pietra (Folds in Stone), Raffaello Galiotto’s exhibition hosted in the spaces of the Teatro Romano di Verona, included in the programme of Marmomac & the City (21 September to 11 October) and promoted by Art Verona. Here, alongside works of Roman sculpture, Genesi explores the relationship between stone, form and technology, connecting millennia-old knowledge with the tools of digital design and CNC machining techniques.

 

The name Genesi conveys the deepest meaning of the work: the birth of form. At the heart of Galiotto’s research is the fold, conceived not simply as a surface detail, but as a principle capable of generating a form. The material curves, unfolds and takes direction, transforming an apparently simple gesture into a constantly evolving process. The fold thus becomes presence, movement and perception, evoking the outline of a figure, a body.

 

 

 

While ancient sculpture is shaped by the direct relationship between hand, tools and stone, Galiotto works from a digital development that is then translated into an algorithm and entrusted to CNC machines. Advanced processing techniques do not replace the creative gesture, but expand its possibilities, enabling the exploration of forms that would be difficult to achieve through manual work alone. The gesture changes, the tools change, but the desire to understand the material and reveal its potential remains central. Raffaello Galiotto: “The experimental nature of my sculptural research, based on the use of digital technology, necessarily requires the contribution of other specific areas of expertise. In its final form, the work is therefore the expression of a collective, closely integrated effort involving people and machines. Genesi is the latest result of my long-standing collaboration with Lithos Design, a company that embraces new challenges and approaches them with enthusiasm.”

The Pieghe di Pietra exhibition with Genesi will open on 21 September in the presence of institutional representatives and will remain open to the public until 6 January.
